Top 5 Respected Careers

Out of nearly one million participants surveyed by the Gallup Organization, those who said they didn't have enough work to do gave a job satisfaction rating of less than 50 out of 100. Boredom is often linked to responsibility - something you might need more of.

Life is too short to spend at a boring job. More responsibility can do wonders for your professional happiness, and a degree can help get you there. A career in healthcare, IT, or business would offer higher responsibility, not to mention more fulfillment and respect.
  • Human Resource Management
Employee job development and satisfaction is a big focal point for HR Managers. Earning a degree in HR management and becoming certified by the Society for Human Resource Management will qualify you for this career with high responsibility.
  • Business
Picture a new business career: walking into work on a day full of meetings, energized by deadlines, and satisfied because you know what you are doing matters. Business administration is the most popular bachelor's degree for a reason. A business career means higher responsibility, higher pay, and higher satisfaction.
  • IT
With computers and technology among the highest growth industries, a degree in computer science or a related field is enough to qualify you for an entry level IT job. Over half of IT professionals are happy they chose an IT career despite peaks and valleys in the economy, and it can be easy to shift between an IT and a business career.
  • Medical Technology
Medical imaging, new medicine, and biologics call for jobs with increasing responsibility. Degrees in biology, chemistry, and technology are ideal for this career, where you'll work on the cutting edge of medicine and healthcare.
  • Nursing
Caring for patients, keeping records, supporting a physician full-time - nursing involves a high level of engagement to meet the job's responsibility. RN (Registered Nurse) programs are available everywhere (even online), and the US Bureau of Labor Statistics calls job prospects "excellent."

Taking on a job with more responsibility can lead to more respect and an ultimately more satisfying career.
