On-Campus Success: Just Show Up

While online degree programs have come a long way in the last twenty years, they're not for everyone. There's no disputing the immediate access and flexibility of learning through an online environment. But many students find there's no digital substitute for face-to-face interactions with professors and fellow students. On-campus learning also provides personal degree or career counselling, research assistance, and spontaneous collaboration. As the comic Woody Allen once said, "Eighty percent of success is showing up."

What's Your Learning Style?

While campus-based schooling has traditionally catered to full-time degree-seekers, many of today's college programs are specifically designed for students who want to take evening and weekend classes. Whether you're working a part-time job or involved in your full-time career, campus education can work for you. Are you the type of student who benefits from direct guidance, visiting instructors during office hours, or staying after lecture to ask pertinent questions? Are you also a good group learner who enjoys the social interaction of multiple minds working on a project together? If so, then a campus-based program is a great way for you to learn.

Enjoying Campus Amenities

If you're returning to college after a long hiatus or attending school for the first time, then you should consider the benefits of attending a campus school. A campus with access to a library, learning labs, coffee-house discussions, visiting lecturers, and the immediacy of drop-in tutors may suit your learning style. Campus-based, real-time interactions and debates help many students to integrate career-focused learning. Plus, you won't get over your fear of public speaking by typing into a chat window.

Social learners delight in diverse on-campus cultural and social activities - A broadband modem can't fit all of those opportunities into an Ethernet cord.
