The Go-Getter: Top 3 Jobs That Reward AmbitionBy Clare KaufmanLearning & Life Columnist January 12, 2007
People who are dedicated and driven to succeed will appreciate a job that rewards their hard work and high aims. If you're a Type A personality, that will help even more. These three competitive careers set the bar high, but also pay generous dividends.
Accounting. Numbers-savvy analysts will find challenge and opportunity in an accounting career. Growth potential is strong in accounting, thanks in part to more stringent federal auditing regulations. "Sarbanes-Oxley increased the demand for accounting," explains the director of the American Institute of CPAs. "To comply with these regulations, companies need in-house financial expertise."
Management Consulting. Businesses hire management consultants to streamline their operations and enhance profitability. This pragmatic focus is the signature strength of a Type A personality. Ambitious, results-oriented individuals excel in management consulting and thrive in its intense work environment. Long workweeks are the norm--but so are six-figure paychecks and sky-high advancement opportunities. A management consulting career starts with a university degree program; a bachelor's in business or finance and/or an MBA are standard qualifications. Computer Systems Analysis. Systems analysts apply the same big-picture perspective to computer operations. The systems analyst assesses the technical needs of a business and determines the most efficient solution. Systems analysis appeals to independent thinkers who can achieve results. Self-motivation is key; one employer "looks for someone who can take the ball and run with it." Technical skills are also a must, and most systems analysts begin with a college degree program in information technology. The Type A personality can be a valuable asset in the career marketplace. With the focus and drive to get the job done, you'll be able to succeed in many career paths. Sources
